What Is a Wide Text Generator?
A wide text generator is a text converter that swaps each American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) character for its fullwidth Unicode twin, so letters look stretched and evenly spaced. The same tool goes by fullwidth text generator, wide font generator, wide text converter, wide text maker and vaporwave text generator.
How Wide Text Works
Fullwidth letters come from the Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms block (U+FF00 to U+FFEF). The block was made for Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK) text, where a Latin letter had to fill the same square cell as a CJK character. The generator adds 0xFEE0 to every printable ASCII character from ! (U+0021) to ~ (U+007E), so A (U+0041) becomes A (U+FF21), and turns each space into the ideographic space (U+3000).
How to Use the Wide Text Generator
To use the wide text generator, type a short phrase, copy a wide style, and paste it. The process takes 4 steps:
- Type a short phrase in the box at the top. Short phrases keep the airy look, and long lines wrap awkwardly.
- Pick a width: fullwidth, ultra wide, spaced or wide bold.
- Tap Copy on the wide version you like.
- Paste it into a bio, a caption, a display name or a playlist title.
Wide Text Styles
There are 6 wide text styles, from slightly wide to super wide:
| Wide style | Example | How it widens |
|---|---|---|
| Fullwidth (vaporwave) | wide text | Fullwidth letters and ideographic spaces |
| Ultra wide | w i d e | Fullwidth letters with an ideographic space after each one |
| Spaced out | w i d e t e x t | Normal letters with a space between each one |
| Wide bold | 𝘄 𝗶 𝗱 𝗲 | Bold sans letters with spaces |
| Spaced script | 𝓌 𝒾 𝒹 ℯ | Script letters with spaces |
| Framed wide | 『 wide 』 | Fullwidth letters in corner brackets |
Unicode has no bold fullwidth alphabet, so wide bold spaces out bold sans letters instead.
Fullwidth Character Map
Here is where each wide character lives in Unicode:
| Characters | Unicode range | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Capitals A to Z | U+FF21 to U+FF3A | ABC XYZ |
| Small letters a to z | U+FF41 to U+FF5A | abc xyz |
| Digits 0 to 9 | U+FF10 to U+FF19 | 0123456789 |
| Punctuation and symbols | U+FF01 to U+FF5E | !?#$%&@ |
| Space | U+3000 (ideographic space) | About 2 normal spaces wide |
Accented letters such as é, ñ and ü, and Cyrillic, Arabic and Thai letters, have no fullwidth twin, so they stay as typed.
Wide Text vs Vaporwave vs Spaced Text
Wide text and vaporwave text use the same fullwidth characters, and spaced text uses normal letters with gaps. Vaporwave is a 2010s internet art and music style that paired fullwidth captions with retro computer graphics, such as sunset drive ☆. Spaced text, such as a e s t h e t i c, adds spaces between letters without widening them. Fullwidth widens each character, and ultra wide combines both. More soft styles are on the aesthetic font generator page.
Japanese Full-Width (Zenkaku) and Half-Width (Hankaku) Text
Japanese keyboards type 2 widths of Latin letters: full-width zenkaku (全角), such as ABC, and half-width hankaku (半角), such as ABC. Japanese input tools switch between the 2 widths, and the same Unicode block holds half-width katakana such as アイウ. Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters are already full width, so type Latin letters or numbers to see the wide effect.
Where Wide Text Works
Wide text works in 6 of the 7 places people paste it most:
| Place | Wide text | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram bio and posts | Yes | Long wide lines wrap early in a 150-character bio |
| X (Twitter) display name and posts | Yes | X counts each fullwidth character as 2 |
| TikTok captions | Yes | Short hooks read best |
| Spotify playlist titles | Yes | Popular for lo-fi and vaporwave playlists |
| Discord messages and names | Yes | Display names hold 32 characters |
| WhatsApp status | Yes | Same as any text |
| Usernames and @handles | No | Plain ASCII letters only |
On X, wide text counts as 18 characters and plain wide text as 9.
Big Text vs Wide Text
Big text and wide text differ: wide text stretches letters sideways, while big text makes letters look larger or bolder. There are 3 ways to get big text with copy and paste:
- Square letters: 🅱🅸🅶 and 🄱🄸🄶, which look like large blocks. See the square text page.
- Fullwidth capitals: BIG TEXT, the widest plain letters in Unicode.
- ASCII art banners: big letters drawn across several lines of symbols, which suit code comments and forums, not names.
Unicode text has no colour, so coloured big text needs an image tool or a design app.
Is Wide Text Searchable?
Yes, wide text stays more searchable than most styled text. Unicode links every fullwidth character to its normal letter through a compatibility mapping, so search systems that normalize text match wide to wide. Small caps and many math letters have no such link. Keep key words plain on profiles all the same, as some apps search raw characters only.
Free Wide Text for Bios, Captions and Playlists
A wide text generator turns normal letters, digits and punctuation into fullwidth characters with a slow, airy vaporwave look. Pick fullwidth, ultra wide, spaced or wide bold text, keep phrases short, and budget double on X, where each wide character counts as 2. Every wide text style on FontGlint is free to copy and paste.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the wide text generator free?
Yes, all wide text styles are free, and the conversion runs in your browser.
Is wide text the same as vaporwave text?
Yes, vaporwave text uses the same fullwidth characters as wide text, and the name comes from the internet art style.
Can I use wide text in a username?
No, Instagram and X reject fullwidth letters in @handles, so put wide text in the display name or the first bio line.
Does wide text work with accented letters?
No, accented letters such as é and ñ have no fullwidth version, so they stay normal width in the middle of wide text.
Why does wide text show as boxes?
Boxes appear when a very old phone or a minimal Linux system lacks the fullwidth block. Modern Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac fonts include it.
Does wide text use more characters?
Yes on X, where each fullwidth character counts as 2. Most other apps, such as WhatsApp, count each wide character as 1.
