What Is an Italic Text Generator?
An italic text generator is an italic text converter that swaps each Latin letter for its italic twin in the Unicode Standard. The italic ๐ and the upright a are separate characters, so the italic look survives copying into Instagram, X, Discord or WhatsApp, where you cannot pick a font.
The same tool goes by 5 other names: italic font generator, italics generator, italicizer, italic text maker and italic letters generator. Every version produces text, not an italic font file.
How Does the Italic Text Generator Work?
The italic text generator maps each letter to the Unicode mathematical alphanumeric symbols block. Serif italic capitals start at U+1D434 (๐ด), and the 4 italic alphabets sit next to the bold and script ones in the same block. One letter breaks the pattern: the italic h is U+210E (โ), named PLANCK CONSTANT, as Unicode encoded it as a physics symbol years before the rest of the italic alphabet. FontGlint swaps in โ automatically, so "the" turns into ๐กโ๐.
How to Make Italic Text
To make italic text, type your words, pick an italic style, and paste it where you want the slant. There are 3 steps:
- Enter your words in the input field. All italic styles change as you write.
- Tap an italic style, such as serif italic for a classic look or sans italic for a clean look. The style copies on tap.
- Paste the italic text into a bio, caption, comment, chat or document.
Tap the heart on a style to keep it in Favorites for next time.
Italic Text Styles
FontGlint has 89 italic text styles in 4 groups: classic italic alphabets, struck and underlined italics, bold italic combinations, and decorated italic text.

Struck and Underlined Italic Text
Struck and underlined italics add a combining line to each slanted letter. The most used ones are italic strikethrough (๐ผฬถ๐กฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ ๐ฬถ๐กฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ), slashed italic (๐ฬธ๐ฬธ๐ฬธ๐ ฬธโฬธ๐ฬธ๐ฬธ), italic tilde strike (๐ฬด๐ฬด๐ฬด๐ฬด๐ฬด), underlined italic (๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ), italic double underline (๐ทฬณ๐ฬณ๐ขฬณ๐ฬณ๐ฬณ๐ฬณ) and italic wave below (๐ฬฐ๐ฬฐ๐ฃฬฐ๐ฆฬฐ). See the strikethrough and underline pages for more lines.
Bold Italic Underline and Bold Italic Strikethrough
Bold italic combinations stack weight, slant and a line. Popular picks are bold italic underline (๐ฉฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ ฬฒ ๐ฐฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ ๐ผฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ), bold italic strikethrough (๐ถฬถ๐ฬถ๐ ฬถ ๐ทฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ๐ฬถ) and bold italic overline (๐ถฬ ๐ฬ ๐ฬ ๐ฬ ๐ฬ ๐ฬ ๐ฬ ๐ฬ ). Every mark effect on FontGlint comes in plain, bold, italic and bold italic versions. More weights are on the bold text generator.
Decorated Italic Text
Decorated italic text frames slanted letters with symbols, such as โก ๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ข๐๐ โก, โฟ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ โฟ, โฆ ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ญ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต โฆ and โ ๐๐๐ ๐. Copy a frame from the fancy text generator and paste italic letters inside it.
Italic vs Oblique vs Cursive
Italic, oblique and cursive are 3 different letter styles. Italic letters are redrawn slanted shapes with their own forms, such as the single-story ๐. Oblique letters are upright letters tilted to the right with no change in shape. Cursive letters copy joined handwriting, with loops such as ๐ธ๐๐๐๐พ๐โฏ.
Serif italic in Unicode is a true italic, and sans italic looks closer to an oblique. For looped handwriting, open the cursive font generator.
Italic Font vs Italic Text
An italic font is a typeface file, such as Garamond Italic, that you install and use inside one app or design. Italic text from this generator is a set of Unicode characters that keeps its slant in every app. Use an italic font for print and logos, and italic text for social media and chats.
A Short History of Italic Type
Italic type began in Renaissance Venice. In 1501, the Venetian printer Aldus Manutius published an edition of Virgil set in a slanted typeface cut by Francesco Griffo, modeled on the handwriting of Italian scholars. The narrow italic letters fit more words on a page, so Aldus printed small, cheap books with them.
Printers later paired italics with upright roman type, and italics took the job they still do: marking titles, quotes, foreign words and emphasis. Unicode added mathematical italic letters in 2001, which made copy and paste italics possible on phones and social media.
Italic Text for Instagram, Facebook, X, Discord and LinkedIn
Italic text works in every app that accepts Unicode, and 2 of the apps below have their own italic syntax.
Italic Text for Instagram and TikTok
Instagram and TikTok bios, captions, comments and display names accept pasted italic text. Serif italic suits aesthetic bios, and bold italic suits a caption hook. See Instagram fonts.
Italic Text for Facebook and LinkedIn
Facebook posts and LinkedIn posts have no italic button, so copy and paste italics for quotes and book titles there. Keep the rest of the post upright for easy reading.
Italic Text for X (Twitter)
Italic text works in X posts, replies, the bio and the display name. Use italics for a quote or a sarcastic aside, as X counts many italic letters as 2 characters. See Twitter fonts.
Italic Text for Discord and WhatsApp
Discord and WhatsApp have built-in italics: *single asterisks* in Discord messages and _underscores_ in WhatsApp chats. Use Unicode italic text for a Discord nickname, a server name, a WhatsApp name or a status, where those symbols do nothing.
Italic Text in HTML, CSS, Markdown, LaTeX and Word
Documents and websites have real italic formatting. There are 5 standard methods:
- HyperText Markup Language (HTML): use <em> for stressed words and <i> for titles, terms and foreign words.
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS): set font-style: italic for a true italic, or font-style: oblique for a slanted upright font.
- Markdown: *one asterisk* or _one underscore_ on each side.
- LaTeX: \textit{text} for italic shape, or \emph{text} for emphasis.
- Word and Google Docs: highlight the words, then use the I button or the Ctrl+I (Windows) / Cmd+I (Mac) shortcut.
Formatted italics stay ordinary letters underneath, which keeps them searchable and readable aloud. Websites get better results from these 5 methods than from pasted Unicode italics.
Limits of Unicode Italic Text
Unicode italics cover the 26 Latin letters and Greek only. Here are 5 related questions people ask, answered directly.
Can You Make Italic Numbers?
No, Unicode has no italic digits, so 0 to 9 stay upright in every italic style. For styled numbers, use bold serif digits (๐๐๐๐) or double-struck digits (๐๐๐๐) on the number fonts page.
Can You Make Cyrillic Text Italic?
No, Unicode has no italic Cyrillic letters. Russian, Ukrainian or Serbian text stays upright in an italic text generator. Use Ctrl+I in Word or Google Docs, or an italic Cyrillic font, for slanted Cyrillic.
Is There a Small Italic Text Generator?
No, Unicode has no small italic letters. The closest options are tiny superscript letters (หขแตแตหกหก แตแตหฃแต) and small caps (๊ฑแดแดสส แดแดแด๊ฑ), both upright, on the small text generator.
Times New Roman Italic and Arial Italic
Serif italic text looks like a Times New Roman style italic, and sans italic looks like an Arial style italic. The exact shapes come from the font on the viewer's device. For real Times New Roman Italic or Arial Italic, type in Word or Google Docs and press Ctrl+I.
Can You Download an Italic Font?
No, italic text from this generator is not a download, as it is plain text. Download italic font files, such as Playfair Display Italic, Lora Italic and EB Garamond Italic, from Google Fonts for free.
Italic Text Ideas
Italic text fits 4 kinds of lines best:

๐๐๐ก ๐๐๐ ๐กโ๐๐ ๐ ๐คโ๐ ๐ค๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ก. - Book, song and chapter titles
๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ถ๐๐: ๐ป๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐๐๐ - Weddings and anniversaries
โก ๐ด๐ฆ๐๐ โ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ต๐๐๐๐ ยท 12.12.2026 โก - Aesthetic bios
Pair one italic line with plain text around it, so the italic part reads as the highlight.
Free Italic Text Generator

FontGlint keeps every italic style free and one tap away: pick the slant that fits, copy and paste it into Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord or WhatsApp, and leave the rest of your text upright. Websites and documents get real italics from their own formatting tools.
