How Strikethrough Text Works

Unicode strikethrough uses combining characters: marks with no width that draw over the letter before them. The Combining Long Stroke Overlay (U+0336) draws the classic line, and 3 more marks give other looks: Combining Short Stroke Overlay (U+0335), Combining Tilde Overlay (U+0334) and Combining Long Solidus Overlay (U+0338) for a slash. The generator places one mark after every letter, and iOS, Android, Windows and macOS all draw the line as part of the text.

To strikethrough text in a document, use the built-in strikethrough command, as rich text formatting keeps the words searchable. Here are 5 tools:
