What Is a Font Generator?
A font generator is a Unicode text converter that turns regular letters into styled characters you can paste where fonts cannot be changed. Instagram, X, Facebook, WhatsApp and most games show all text in one system font. A font generator gets around that limit by replacing each letter with a look-alike character from the Unicode Standard.
The Unicode Standard is the character set that every modern phone, computer and browser uses. The Unicode Standard holds more than 150,000 characters from over 150 writing systems, plus math symbols, arrows and emoji. Many of those characters look like styled Latin letters, and the font generator puts them together to spell your words.
FontGlint is a font generator with 534 Unicode font styles. The same kind of tool goes by 6 other names: font changer, fancy text generator, font style generator, stylish text generator, text font generator and Unicode font generator.
How Does the Font Generator Work?
The font generator works in 3 steps: it reads each character you type, finds the matching character in each style, and joins the result into one line of text. The letter A becomes 𝐀 in bold serif, 𝓐 in bold script, 𝔄 in old english and Ⓐ in bubble style.
FontGlint builds its 534 styles from 5 groups of Unicode characters:
- Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols: 13 complete alphabets added in Unicode 3.1 (2001), including bold, italic, script, blackletter, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace.
- Enclosed letters: bubble Ⓐ, dark bubble 🅐, square 🄰 and black square 🅰 letters.
- Look-alike letters: 26 alphabets taken from other scripts, such as 卂乃匚, ᗩᗷᑕ and ₳฿₵.
- Combining marks: 30 effects that attach to each letter, such as s̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶, u̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲ and glitch marks.
- Text symbols and frames: 75 decorations such as ꧁༺ ༻꧂ and ★彡 彡★, plus 12 letter separators.
About FontGlint
FontGlint is a free font generator that converts plain text into 534 Unicode font styles and shows where each style works before you paste it. The name comes from "glint", a short flash of light, chosen for a tool that makes a bio, game name or post stand out.
Why Choose FontGlint?
There are 4 reasons to choose FontGlint:
- Honest numbers. Every style in the list looks different, and the same style count appears on every page.
- Clear support labels. Each style carries a badge for where it displays, so you know before you paste whether a phone shows boxes.
- Private conversion. Your text is converted in your browser, and FontGlint never receives it.
- Fast pages. Every page is static and light, so the font generator opens quickly on slow mobile data.
FontGlint has 29 tool pages, including style pages such as cursive fonts and bubble text, platform pages for Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Discord, Facebook and X, and name generators for Free Fire and PUBG. Read more on the About FontGlint page.
FontGlint Features
The FontGlint font generator has 6 main features:
- Live preview: all 534 styles change as you type, with no button to press.
- 19 style categories: filters for bold, italic, cursive, gothic, bubble, square, small, wide, aesthetic, cute, cool, glitch, strikethrough, underline, upside down, decorated, gaming, number and unique fonts.
- Add to favorites: the heart on each style saves it to a Favorites list kept in your browser.
- Recent tab: the last 10 styles you copied, newest first.
- Style search and size control: a search box for style names and a preview size slider from 14 to 34 pixels (px).
- Platform preview: a profile preview on the Instagram, TikTok, X, WhatsApp and Discord pages that counts characters against each bio limit.
How to Copy and Paste Fonts
To copy and paste fonts, type your text in the box at the top, tap the style you like, and paste it into any app. The process takes 3 steps:
- Type your text. Enter or paste your text into the text box. Every style updates as you type.
- Pick a style. Scroll the list, tap a category such as Cursive or Bubble, or search for a style name.
- Copy and paste. Tap the style or its copy button. The styled text goes to your clipboard, ready for a bio, caption, chat or document.
Press and hold the styled text to copy it by hand, if your browser blocks clipboard access.
Font Styles You Can Generate
The font generator creates 534 styles in 9 font families, including bold, cursive, old english, bubble and monospace fonts. Each family has its own look and its own best use.
Bold and Italic Fonts
Bold and italic fonts add weight or slant to text in apps with no formatting buttons. Unicode has 6 bold alphabets and 4 italic alphabets, including 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 serif, 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 sans-serif, 𝑩𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝑰𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒄 and 𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 sans-serif. The serif italic h comes from a separate Unicode block (ℎ), and FontGlint swaps it in for you. More styles are on the bold text generator and italic text generator.
Cursive and Script Fonts
Cursive fonts use joined handwriting shapes. Unicode has 2 script alphabets: light script (𝒮𝒸𝓇𝒾𝓅𝓉) and bold script (𝓑𝓸𝓵𝓭 𝓢𝓬𝓻𝓲𝓹𝓽). Bold script stays readable at small sizes, so it is a common choice for names and bios. Light script takes 11 letters (ℬ ℰ ℱ ℋ ℐ ℒ ℳ ℛ ℯ ℊ ℴ) from the older Letterlike Symbols block, and those letters can look slightly different on some phones. See the cursive font generator for more.
Old English and Blackletter Fonts
Old english fonts are blackletter letters based on Fraktur, the type used in German print for centuries. Unicode has 2 Fraktur alphabets: 𝔉𝔯𝔞𝔨𝔱𝔲𝔯 and 𝕭𝖔𝖑𝖉 𝕱𝖗𝖆𝖐𝖙𝖚𝖗. Five Fraktur capitals (ℭ ℌ ℑ ℜ ℨ) come from an older block. People use blackletter for band names, tattoo previews and dark bios on the gothic font generator.
Bubble, Dark Bubble and Square Fonts
Bubble and square fonts put each letter inside a shape. The 4 enclosed styles are Ⓑⓤⓑⓑⓛⓔ, dark bubble 🅓🅐🅡🅚, square 🅂🅀🅄🄰🅁🄴 and black square 🅱🅻🅾🅲🅺. Bubble text has lowercase letters and circled numbers (①②③). Dark bubble and both square fonts have capitals only. Find them on the bubble text and square text pages.
Small Capital and Tiny Text
Small text makes words look quieter. FontGlint has 3 small styles: small capital (ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘɪᴛᴀʟ), tiny superscript (ᵗⁱⁿʸ ᵗᵉˣᵗ) and subscript. Subscript covers 17 letters, and the other 9 letters stay full size. Try them on the small text generator.
Monospace, Double-Struck and Wide Fonts
These 3 styles change letter width. Monospace (𝚃𝚢𝚙𝚎𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚛) gives every letter the same width, like typewriter text. Double-struck, or double font (𝔻𝕠𝕦𝕓𝕝𝕖), draws letters with doubled strokes and includes numbers. Wide text (Wide) uses full-width characters for a vaporwave look. See the double-struck and wide text pages.
Strikethrough, Underlined and Glitch Text
Effect styles add a mark to every letter. Strikethrough text (s̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶) uses U+0336, underlined text (u̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲) uses U+0332, and glitch text stacks random marks in 4 strengths, from light glitch to cursed zalgo. Use them on the strikethrough, underline and glitch text pages.
Text Symbols and Decorated Fonts
Decorated fonts wrap text in symbols. FontGlint pairs 75 frames with different alphabets, for example ꧁༺ 𝓝𝓪𝓶𝓮 ༻꧂, ★彡 ɴᴀᴍᴇ 彡★ and ʚ 𝓃𝒶𝓂ℯ ɞ. These styles suit profile names and gaming tags. Build one on the stylish name generator or the fancy text generator.
Number Fonts
Number fonts restyle digits. Eleven base styles have their own digits: 𝟏𝟐𝟑, 𝟭𝟮𝟯, 𝟣𝟤𝟥, 𝟙𝟚𝟛, 𝟷𝟸𝟹, ①②③, ❶❷❸, ⑴⑵⑶, ¹²³, ₁₂₃ and 123. Script, blackletter and italic styles have no digits in Unicode, so numbers stay plain in those styles. See number fonts.
Best Fonts for Bio, Captions, Names, Posts and Comments
The best font for social media depends on where the text appears: bios need readable styles, names need distinct styles, and long posts need headings. Here are the top picks for 5 common uses: bio captions, stylish name, fancy text posts, captions and comment/reply.
Fonts for Bio
The best fonts for a bio are bold script, small capital and sans-serif, as these 3 stay readable at small sizes.
- 𝓑𝓸𝓵𝓭 𝓢𝓬𝓻𝓲𝓹𝓽 𝓑𝓲𝓸
- ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘɪᴛᴀʟ ʙɪᴏ
- 𝖲𝖺𝗇𝗌-𝖲𝖾𝗋𝗂𝖿 𝖡𝗂𝗈
- ⋆。°✩ ᴅʀᴇᴀᴍ ʙɪɢ ✩°。⋆
Fonts for Captions
The best fonts for Instagram and Facebook captions are bold italic for quotes and bubble letters for one highlighted word.
- 𝑩𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝑰𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏
- Ⓑⓤⓑⓑⓛⓔ Ⓒⓐⓟⓣⓘⓞⓝ
- 🅓🅐🅡🅚 🅑🅤🅑🅑🅛🅔
- 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙨-𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙛 𝘽𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙄𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙘
Fonts for Stylish Name
The best fonts for a stylish name are bold cursive, blackletter and framed styles, as these 3 stand out in comments and friend lists.
- 𝓑𝓸𝓵𝓭 𝓒𝓾𝓻𝓼𝓲𝓿𝓮 𝓝𝓪𝓶𝓮
- 𝕭𝖑𝖆𝖈𝖐𝖑𝖊𝖙𝖙𝖊𝖗 𝕹𝖆𝖒𝖊
- ꧁༺ 𝓝𝓪𝓶𝓮 ༻꧂
- ʚ ɴᴀᴍᴇ ɞ
Fonts for Fancy Text Posts
The best fonts for long posts on Twitter (X), Facebook, Threads or Reddit are bold for headings, italic for quotes, monospace for code or lists, and underline for one key line.
- 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠
- 𝐼𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝑞𝑢𝑜𝑡𝑒
- 𝚃𝚢𝚙𝚎𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚕𝚒𝚜𝚝
- U̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲d̲ k̲e̲y̲ l̲i̲n̲e̲
- 🅽🅴🆆 🆂🅰🅻🅴
Fonts for Comment/Reply
The best fonts for comments and replies are sans-serif bold and bold italic, as short messages need quick reading.
- 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗷𝗼𝗯!
- 𝑺𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖
- ♡ 𝓈𝓌ℯℯ𝓉 ♡
Where Can You Use Copy and Paste Fonts?
You can use copy and paste fonts in any app or website that accepts Unicode text, including social media, chat apps, games, spreadsheets and QR codes. Here are 10 common places.
Instagram Fonts
To change fonts on Instagram, copy a style from the font generator and paste it into your Name, bio, caption or comment. Instagram has no font menu for these fields, and Unicode characters keep their look after pasting. The bio holds 150 characters. Usernames accept only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so styled letters go in the Name field. More tips are on the Instagram fonts page.
Twitter (X) Fonts
Twitter fonts work in the X display name (50 characters), bio (160 characters) and posts (280 characters on standard accounts). X counts many styled letters as 2 characters, so a fully styled post fills the limit faster. Use the Twitter fonts page for bold headings and italic quotes.
Facebook Fonts
Facebook fonts work in posts, comments, Page posts, Marketplace listings and the profile intro. Facebook profile names reject most special characters. Long posts show only the first few lines before "See more", so a bold first line keeps the main point visible. See Facebook fonts.
Threads and Reddit
Threads accepts styled text in posts, replies and the bio. Reddit accepts it in post titles and comments, and Reddit's own Markdown handles bold and italic inside post bodies.
WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and SMS
WhatsApp has 4 built-in formats: *bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~ and three backticks for monospace. Copy styles from the font generator for script, bubble or old english text in WhatsApp chats, status and About, as well as Facebook Messenger. Short Message Service (SMS) texts with styled letters switch from the 7-bit GSM alphabet (GSM-7) to the Universal Coded Character Set (UCS-2) encoding. One message then drops from 160 to 70 characters, and each styled letter uses 2 of those 70. See WhatsApp fonts.
Discord and Gaming Usernames
Discord display names and server nicknames accept styled text up to 32 characters. Discord usernames accept only lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Free Fire nicknames allow 12 characters, and the Free Fire name style generator checks every name against that limit. Find more on the Discord fonts and PUBG name generator pages.
Excel, Notes and Documents
Styled text pastes into Microsoft Excel cells, Google Sheets, Word documents and notes apps. Spreadsheet formulas such as UPPER() and search tools treat styled letters as different characters, so keep data you sort or search in plain text and style only titles and labels.
Folder and File Names
Windows and macOS accept Unicode in folder and file names, so a folder can be named 𝓟𝓻𝓸𝓳𝓮𝓬𝓽𝓼 or Ⓟⓗⓞⓣⓞⓢ. Windows blocks 9 characters in names: \ / : * ? " < > |.
QR Codes
To put styled text in a QR code, copy it from the font generator and paste it into a plain text QR code generator. Each styled letter takes 4 bytes in 8-bit Unicode Transformation Format (UTF-8), compared with 1 byte for a plain letter. The largest QR code (version 40, low error correction) holds 2,953 bytes, which fits about 730 styled letters.
Ads and Promotions
Styled text highlights one point in an ad or promo post, for example 𝓤𝓹 𝓽𝓸 50% 𝓞𝓕𝓕 or 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴. Check each ad platform's text rules before you publish, and keep the offer details in plain text.
Retro Font Styles: 60s, 80s, 90s and 2000s Text
Unicode cannot copy a specific retro typeface, but 4 styles match the look of each decade:
- 60s and 70s: monospace text such as 𝚃𝚢𝚙𝚎𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚛, with the fixed-width letters of typewriters.
- 80s: double-struck 𝔸𝕣𝕔𝕒𝕕𝕖 and black square 🅰🆁🅲🅰🅳🅴 letters for arcade-style titles.
- 90s: wide vaporwave text such as vaporwave, common in 90s-inspired art.
- 2000s (Y2K): star and sparkle frames such as ⋆。°✩ ʏ2ᴋ ✩°。⋆ and ★彡 𝓽𝓮𝔁𝓽 彡★.
Pixel fonts such as 8x8 bitmap fonts are not part of Unicode, so no text font generator can produce them. Use font creator software such as FontStruct for a real pixel font.
Do Unicode Fonts Work Everywhere?
Yes, Unicode fonts work on almost every modern phone, computer and app, with one exception: rare characters show as empty boxes (□) on devices that lack a matching glyph. The device runs Unicode glyph fallback, searching its other fonts for the character, and draws a box if no font has it.
FontGlint marks every style with 1 of 3 support levels:
- Works almost everywhere (325 styles): bold, italic, script, blackletter, bubble and wide text.
- Works in most apps (198 styles): combining-mark effects and look-alike letters, which a few apps strip or space differently.
- May show boxes on older phones (11 styles): letters taken from Yi, Cherokee, Ethiopic and runic scripts.
Usernames follow separate rules. Instagram, TikTok, Discord and X accept only plain letters, numbers and a few symbols in @handles, so styled text goes in display names and bios.
Is Fancy Text Accessible to Screen Readers?
No, most screen readers do not read fancy text as normal words. VoiceOver reads 𝐁 as "mathematical bold capital B", and some screen readers skip styled letters. Write names, prices, dates and links in plain text, so every reader gets the key details.
Font Generator vs Font Creator Software
A font generator changes the characters in your text, while font creator software builds a new font file. A font generator outputs Unicode text for pasting. A font creator outputs a TrueType Font (TTF), OpenType Font (OTF) or Web Open Font Format 2 (WOFF2) file that you install on a computer or load on a website.
| Font generator | Font creator software | |
|---|---|---|
| Output | Unicode text | TTF, OTF or WOFF2 font file |
| Works in | Any app that accepts text | Apps with a font menu and websites |
| Setup | None | Install or upload the font file |
| Skills | None | Glyph drawing, kerning and font metrics |
There are 9 popular font creator tools: FontForge, FontLab, Glyphs, High-Logic FontCreator, Fontself, Calligraphr, BirdFont, FontStruct and MyScriptFont. Calligraphr and MyScriptFont turn handwriting templates into fonts, FontStruct builds fonts from geometric bricks, and Fontself runs inside Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts are font libraries, not generators: both host ready-made fonts for websites and design apps.
Font creator software handles 6 tasks a text font generator does not: kerning pair tweaking, ligature substitution mapping, font hinting optimization, variable font instancing, font subsetting and font licensing metadata. Use a font creator, if you need a brand typeface or a web font. Use the font generator, if you need styled text in an app with no font menu.
Tips for Using Fancy Text
There are 5 tips for using fancy text well:
- Style a few words. A styled name or headline stands out, and a fully styled paragraph is hard to read.
- Keep keywords plain. App search matches plain letters, so a fully styled name or hashtag is harder to find.
- Check the character limit. Frames and symbols add characters to bios and game names.
- Test the text first. Paste it into a note on your phone before you publish.
- Use 1 or 2 styles per post. Mixed styles look messy in one block of text.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this font generator free?
Yes, the font generator is free, with no sign-up, watermark or limit on how much text you convert.
Are these real fonts?
No, these are Unicode characters, not font files. Unicode characters keep their look when you paste them into Instagram, WhatsApp or games.
How do I write in cursive online?
To write in cursive online, type your text in the font generator and copy the Script or Bold Script style, then paste it where you want the cursive text.
How much text can I convert at once?
The text box holds up to 1,000 characters, enough for a full bio, caption or short post.
Does the font generator work offline?
Yes, the font generator works offline once the page has loaded, as every conversion runs in your browser with no request to a server.
Why does my styled text look different on another phone?
Styled text looks different on another phone as each device draws Unicode characters with its own system font. The letters stay the same characters, and only their shapes change slightly.
What is the difference between a font and a typeface?
